Regionale 18: OOO Object Oriented Ontology at Kunsthalle Basel

Dates: 25 Nov 2017 – 21 Jan 2018

Curated by Andreas Angelidakis

In 2017, I participated in Regionale 18 at Kunsthalle Basel, as part of the annual cross-border exhibition spanning Switzerland, France, and Germany. The exhibition took place from 25 November 2017 to 21 January 2018.

Regionale is a long-standing platform dedicated to emerging contemporary art practices in the trinational Basel region. Each year, multiple institutions across three countries present parallel exhibitions, forming a distributed curatorial structure that reflects the diversity of the regional art scene.

Within this framework, the Kunsthalle Basel presented a large group exhibition bringing together a wide selection of artists in a dense installation environment. The exhibition was curated by Andreas Angelidakis and engaged with contemporary theoretical references, including object-oriented ontology and non-anthropocentric perspectives, positioning artworks within a broader reflection on materiality and perception.

My work was presented within this context. I exhibited four oil paintings: “Billy”, “Restaurant Antilope”, “Paris sans vis-à-vis”, and “Femme-vautour”. The works were installed within a densely curated group exhibition, where many pieces were placed in close proximity, producing visual relationships through scale, placement, and contrast.

Rather than a single unified narrative, Regionale 18 unfolded as a multi-layered system across several institutions in the region, highlighting the heterogeneity of contemporary artistic production and curatorial approaches.
